week 11

For the last slog, ill be working on the problem-solving episode.
1.understand the problem
My problem is that i am facing several questions while i am working my my second project. My condition is that i am half-way through the project and i still have several codes that i do not know how to code.
2.division plan
My first step of the plan is to go over the missing part of the project and reread the handout for project 2. i am assuming that maybe i have missed some details from the handout. My second step is to go over the most recent coding lectures and find out whether i have missed some commends that i could apply. Lastly, i plan to go to the TA office hours and discuss the assignment with my partner and the TA.
3.carry out the plan
I followed the first step of the plan and found that i did not miss any details from the handout.  Later i went through the videos on racket recursion and figured that i have misused the "apply" commends. However, i still have some problems so i contacted my partner and we decide to go to the TA office hour from 3 to 5 on Friday. Eventually, after comparing and combining our work together, everything worked perfectly and the coding was flawless.
4.looking back
I figure that it would save both of my partner and my time if we could meet up earlier. Lesson that i learnt was that communication is the best way of solving problems. Reading over and over again the handout does not do any good for me. In short, people tend to work more efficiently in a group rather that by themselves.

week 10

This week we learnt about the effect of modern technology of the society. I feel like expending a little more of my personal thoughts on the hardware effects. Nowadays, cloud storage is very popular. Almost everyone has either a drop box or Google drive account. Personally, i store things like essay or photos, things that  small sizes on my dropbox. I am not a heavy use of dropbox because i do not feel secure to store my personal belongings somewhere i cannot physically see them. I think that is the main disadvantage of the could storage technology. what if one day the files are gone? who are going to be responsible for it? Modern technology has already saves enough storage space for us, and i think we are personally responsible for keeping them as well. We should not rely too much on technology because the future is hard to predict.

week 9

yesterday was the first time in my life that i edit work on Wikipedia. Even though it was not a hard work to do, i still feel a sense of accomplishment when i see my user name showing up on the page as the final editor. As a Wikipedia use, i do appreciate people's efforts whenever i search up things on Wikipedia.  Now, i have become one of those people. I might go on to Wikipedia to edit more work in the future. Another reason that i appreciate the work is that Wikipedia pages cross the cultural/language barriers. There are in fact so much worthwhile knowledge to learn, but due to the background of the knowledge,  people lack the access to acquire those knowledge. Luckily, Wikipedia help to display those knowledge/ facts in various languages. It facilitates the spreading of knowledge around the world.

week 8

Since we had a test on Thursday, we did not have a quiz this Friday. To be honest, i am always not good at doing first and second questions on the test. There are several computer terms that professor mentioned during the lectures which i have never heard before. For example, the functionality of a hard drive. As a result, i cannot completely answer related questions once they show up on the test. also, would there be office hours during the exam periods? I am kind of worried how will i prepare for the final exam. The other rest of the test appeared to be really easy for me. Time flies and part three of Wikipedia assignment is due next Friday. I am considering taking csc108 next year, but i heard that it focuses more on programming. In my statistics class, we are actually using basic coding for calculating quarterly and annually average for some data.

week 7

This week was another week which i had a lot of work to do. Professors all seem to have to tendency to put assignments or tests on the same week. However, i survived. Let's talk about the project that i have just handed in this afternoon. I went to the lab for help this afternoon. TAs were all nice that they explained the coding step by step to me. Define-struct is a newly taught lesson and it showed up on the assignment. I had a hard time understanding it but now i am getting more familiar with it. I happen to run into another student who i know and we decided to work on the next project together. The advantage of having a partner is that it saves both of our time, and also we can discuss when we have problems understanding the project. In overall, it was a nice experience to do the project, and i am satisfied with the work that i have done. :)

week6

This week we are suppose to submit our second part of work for Wikipedia assignment.  Like mentioned before i decided to work on editing Wikipedia pages for three baseball players. There are several instructions that Wikipedia's "help out" provides for new editors to follow. It a new experience that i have never had a chance to make any changes on a Wikipedia page. Today's quiz was easy and straight forward. This week's lectures we learnt about number to binary and also the constructions of images and sounds on a computer. Next week we are handing in our first project. I hope it will not be too hard for me.

week5

This week must be the most horrible week of the entire semester. I had five tests and several assignment to complete in the last two weeks. I didn't go to the quiz because i was having a test at the same time. I am wondering if i could take a make up quiz or something. I tried checking my grades on the CDF website but it showed that there is not marks. I want to mention something about the Wikipedia assignment( though its kind of late to mention now, but i still want to share my thoughts). I chose the edit profiles for three professional baseball players. The reason for doing this was because the WBC( world baseball classics) is going to take place at the beginning of march. Two of the three players that i chose will be playing for the Taiwanese national team. I am really passionate and wanting people around the world to know more about the baseball players from Taiwan. Although they are not like some stars who play for the MLB teams, i believe one of the intentions of Wikipedia is to share information to everyone who is interested in specific categories. I am proud of those players, and i really want to let people from different courtiers to have understanding of those baseball players.
